Breakfast:  La Prima Colazione  (Sicilian)  Prima Colazioni (preeh-mah-koh-lah-tseeh-OH-neeh)

In Italy  a "Bar" (café) is not like  a U.S. style bar.  Most hotels that have a U.S. style bar  will advertise "American Bar". While you can buy a caffè (coffee)  beer, brandy or other alcoholic beverages at Italian bars the main feature is the "espresso machine"  where patrons can buy a coffee, a - un caffè  (oohn-kah-FEH) or other coffee drinks such as,

a cappuccino   - un cappuccino      (Sicilian ) un cappuccinu (ooh-kah-pooh-CHEEH-nooh)

The Bar ( Cafè ) is the center of social life, also a stopping place  for a cup of coffee - un caffè  (ooh-kah-FEH) on the way to work. The bar is not a place to consume large amounts of alcohol. Italians may visit their local bar several times in the morning for coffee, and pastries.  And again in the early evening for an aperitivo or cocktail, usually enjoyed as an appetizer  before dinner, campari  apéritif. Coffee is  never served with a meal, and Italians rarely drink coffee after 11am and never drink coffee with there meals except breakfast.

If you would like a coffee after your meal, order a café not espresso.  Remember if you sit down at a table the price  will increase than if you stand at the bar with all the other Italians.  In larger bars they may also serve gelato, Italian ice cream, Many bars are very elaborate such as  Baratti & Milano, the oldest in Italy.
