 Caffè is served after dinner not with it.  Italians Never drink coffee or tea with meals except breakfast.

Caffè is served in a porcelain demitasse cup (tazzina) with it's own saucer and little steering spoon.

 

Cappuccino: (kah-pooh-CHEEH-nooh)   One-third espresso, one-third steamed milk, and one-third microfoam.

Caffè (kah-FEH)  Espresso: A small cup of very strong coffee, topped with a dark caramel foam called "crema".

Caffè Americano:  American-style coffee, but weaker than espresso and served in a large cup.

Caffè Lungo: (kah-FEH-loon-goh) a long coffee. Lungo is different from an Americano.

the water is poured from he machine until the coffee becomes weak and bitter.



You can order a straight coffee (un caffè) any time of day or night.

 

 

Caffè Hag:  Decaffeinated coffee. (kah-FEH-deh-kah-feh-NAH-tooh) Hag is the name of the largest producer of Italian decaf coffee.

Caffè Freddo (kah-FEH-FRAY-do):  Iced coffee, espresso blended into cold milk and gelato (ice cream). The iced coffee  is pre-sweetened and served ice-cold, but never with ice. (photo)

Caffè Affogato (drowned): Espresso served over gelato, traditionally vanilla is used. (photo)

Caffè Shakerato (kah-FEH shake-er-AH-to): Is made by combining freshly made espresso, a bit of sugar and lots of ice, shaking  until a froth forms when poured. Chocolate syrup can be added. (photo).

 

  Specialty & Variation Caffè

Caffè Corretto (kah-FEH-ko-RE-to):  Corrected with a shot of brandy, grappa,  sambuca or  other liquor. "corretto" is the common Italian
  word for "spiked with liquor".

Caffè Con Zucchero (ZU-kero) - espresso with sugar. Usually, you'll add your own. But in some places the coffee comes with sugar and you have to order it "sensa zucchero" "without sugar" if you don't like it sweet.
Caffè Doppio  (kah-FEH-doh-pyooh):   Double shot espresso.
Caffè Latte: Caffè made with hot milk, cappuccino without the foam served in a glass.
Caffè Macchiato (kah-FEH mah-KYAH-tooh):  Strained espresso  with a small amount of foam spooned onto the espresso. (photo)
Caffè  MarocchinoEspresso with a dash of hot milk and  (cacoa powder).  
Caffè Mocha: Normally, a latte blended with chocolate. 
Caffè Ristretto  (kah-FEH-reeh-STREH-tooh): "Restricted" or "short"  with less water, yielding a stronger taste. 
Caffè Stretto: Espresso with less water.

Black Eye: A cup of drip coffee with two shots of espresso in it.
Red Eye: A cup of drip coffee with one shot of espresso in it. Also known as a shot in the dark, an Al Pacino.

    Tea Decaffeinated:    tè deteibato (teh-deh-teh-eeh-NAH-tooh)
